Here's a big load of facts about
Father Ted!
- Ardal O' Hanlon is also a stand up
comedian, and has had several sell-out tours. A video of
one of his live shows is currently available, and has
been shown on Channel 4 several times.
- The theme tune is by the Divine Comedy,
and there is a real full song of the Ted Theme called
'Songs Of Love.' Originally Pulp were asked to input some
material for the theme, but at the time they were busy
promoting and working on their albums 'His & Hers'
and 'Different Class.'
- Frank Kelly (Fr. Jack) had a hit single
back in 1983. He is currently a star in the (dire) RTE
soap 'Glenroe.'
- The record the Spinmaster plays is 'Ghost
Town' by The Specials, and was Number 1 in 1981.
- The following rides appeared at Funland-
The Whirly-go-round, Freak Pointing, Duck Startling, The
Chair of Death, Goading Fierce Man, The Pond Of Terror,
The Spinning Cat, Tarot Reading, The Ladder, and the
Tunnel Of Goats.
- Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews have
appeared as guest stars in I'm Alan Partridge, as RTE
television producers. The have also written a series
called Big Train.
- Father Ted is mainly filmed in Kilnefora
and Kilnaboy, Co. Clare.
- Father Purcell, the boring priest, does
the voice of Dustin the turkey in RTE's Den TV.
- The opening shots of Craggy Island are of Inis Oirr (Inisheer), the smallest of the 3 Aran Islands in Galway Bay.
The rusted old ship (the Plassy) and the lighthouse are also there and
newspaper articles of the show adorn the walls of the pub at the Ostan Inis Oirr.
- Mrs. Doyle's favourite singer is Eoin Mc
Love.
- Dougal's favourite band is Blur.
- Dermot Morgan (Ted), passed away in
February 1998.
- Kenny Live recently had a show dedicated
to Dermot Morgan.
- The third series was heavily cut and
edited, particularly the very last episode, Going To
America, which apparently contained suicide scenes.
- Father Ted is made by Hat Trick
Productions, the highly successful comedy company
responsible for the likes of Have I Got News For You? and
Whose Line Is It Anyway? RTE's compromising position, and
the attrocious track record for comedy productions in the
Republic (has anyone ever seen Upwardly Mobile?!?)
prompted the writers to make the show with the UK
company.
- The show is filmed in Ireland and England-
Western Ireland outside, and London for the indoor
scenes.
- The two tourist attractions Ted and Dougal
visited were The Magic Road, and St. Kevin's Stump.
- Father Jack's eyecharts were made by
Feckarse Industries, and Carlsberg.
- Brian Eno is a guest star in Going To
America.
