Alan Partridge- Gary's Global Arena

Alan Partridge headed the BBC's flagship chatshow back in 1994, but unfortunately, not all went according to plan. Despite moderate viewing figures at the start of the series, audiences dropped dramatically at the rate of 1 million per week. Things were bad, and it wasn't helped by Alan's unsavoury verbal exchanges with both guests and his resident musical conductor, Glen Ponder, but things went completely wrong when, whilst interviewing his final guest of the series, Alan inadvertantly assassinated him with a duel pistol.

Alan received a reprieve when he was commissioned to present a Christmas special, but his fate was sealed when he insulted guests and punched his boss, Tony Hayers, after a charity pledge went wrong. He was promptly sacked by Mr Hayers, the Chief Commissioning Editor of the BBC, and it seemed as if Alan's TV career was finished.

He was then relocated to present Radio Norwich's graveyard shift, and after splitting with his wife, moved into a Travel Tavern. It was looking as if he was going nowhere, when the startling news came through that Tony Hayers was dead. He was replaced by an old friend of Alan's, Chris Feather, who offered him a 5-year, £1 million deal, before dying halfway through signing the signature.

We eagerly await his new series.
